Kashmir is not part of India. It's disputed territory. Go see the UN map of J&K at
http://www.un.org/Depts/Cartographic/map/profile/kashmir.pdf

Remember, this map is showing Line of Control, according to SIMLA agreement between Pakistan & India, and Line of Control is not a border.

This is also a fact that Indians went to UN and SIMLA agreement took place, not Pakistan.

This is more serious than I thought it was !! It seems that only we Indian citizens(or students) consider Kashmir a part of India! The rest of India and the world is not bothered. CAn we use the Right to Information Act to know the Government stand on the Political Ownership of this controversial land, though we all know it is completely controlled by Pakisthan!!

When the governments can't settle the Mullapperiyaar Dam being in Kerala and still controlled by Tamil Nadu, Can it really do anything about Pakisthan???

Just googled for this and visited a few orkut forums.
The CIA website : https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/in.html

BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/country_profiles/1154019.stm

This is the essence:

1)In order to show some area in the map of any country, the area must be governed by that country.

2)Also if such area has international borders then these borders must be petrolled by security agencies of that country.

3)The area of POK(pak occupied kashmeer), COL(china occupied laddakh)& sikkim-Arunachal pradesh is govenrned by Pkstn, china & india respectivly.

4)There is not a single Indian security personnel or govt employee in POK ,COL areas.

5)Not a single person is elected from the citizens of those areas (POK, COL) in any local democratic bodies, district councils, state assemblies, central assembly which belong to India as BHARATIYA SANGHARAJYA.

6)In graduation courses in India for "geography" the disputed land is shown in different colour mentioning footnote with respect to land and its governing bodies.
exaple:- they will give symbols to disputed lands as a)for POK, b)for COL, c)for sikkim-Arunachal pradesh.......now footnote will be mentioned as a)governed by pakstn, b)governed by china, c) governed by india.

7)The map is official map of India in all international organizations like SAARC, non allied nations, 3rd world countries forum, UNO....etc

8)in India by law the disputed lands (POK,COL,SIKKIM-ARUNACHAL PRADESH) must be shown as Indian territory in any map to be published in India.....if not then colour code with footnote that is readable...... this condition is not compulsory for publications outside India & for any person who is not a citizen of india.

9)the colour code is not compulsory in India if land is shown as Indian territory

10)in india & world wide, Sikkim-Arunachal pradesh must be shown as Indian region.(refer 1 to 5 above)

11) for any publication made by govt. of India (for domestic or international purpose) its must that the disputed land should be shown as Indian region without any colour code.

This is outrageous! There have been several such incidents where such maps have been published - mostly from Pakistan and Bangladesh. Kashmir is definitely a part of India!
