A Little help for the ISRO aspirants- Syllabus

Last year i wrote 2 posts about my ISRO interview. ISRO Scientist/Engineer SC -Interview and Nature of work in ISRO.

Now those  posts are flooding with comments. I am not finding enough time to write reply for every comment. most of the comments  are about syllabus for tests in each stream. Here is some ideas about syllabus.

Mechanical

Written exam:
* There were 80 question with negative marking.
* Most of the questions were from fundamental mechanical engineering.
* Manufacturing, Strength of Materials, Mechanics of Machines were among the hot areas.
* Difficulty level of written test was very low, most of the people attended 70+ questions.

Interview:
* Average time of interview was 15 mins(it depends upon the number of candidates appearing on the day)
* Questions can be asked from any area, but it advised to prepare at least two subjects thoroughly.[eg thermal, strength of materials] Choosing DESIGN as area of interest can lead to disaster
* Open your mouth fully and speak with confidence remain the key points.

Electronics

Well for the test, the questions can come randomly from any of the core subjects that you’ve learned so far. I would recommend subjects from S5 onwards like Linear integrated circuits, Electromagnetic Theory, Computer Communication, Digital circuits, very few logical and mathematical questions, etc – in all a total of 80 questions. My q-paper was mainly concentrated on digital and computer communication, so i guess the questions will be mainly from 2 subjects.

If you are able to get some 50 or so questions right, I guess u’ll be pass through the test, but please be warned- don’t try guess work and also the number of candidates this year is going to be really high so better preparation is recommended.

For the interview- well as Nitin posted earlier, it’ll be anywhere between 10 to 35 mins. My interview was just about 10 mins, and was asked something like 4 to 6 questions. Prepare 2 good subjects (again preferably something that people would not generally choose – that is something really not so easy to study). If you choose easy subjects like LIC or digital circuits – which is chosen by the general population, the interviewers will not ask u anything from them and will start shooting questions randomly from all subjects. This situation occurs especially if your interview is on the second or third day.

Also the feel of this interview will be nothing like any of the other interviews you’ve attended before. There’ll be about 10 delegates sitting around a round table and a white board all ready for u to draw and explain your answers. There won’t be any pep talk like introducing yourself or your hobbies or interests etc. It’ll be straight to technical questioning.

Computer Science

Learn all d core papers frm LSD in S3 C language data structures algorithmic complexity networking etc … learn all core subjects … datz d key …. or refer gate syllabus …. i think dey follow dat sylabus but questions r of lower standard ..i mean easier dan GATE u wll get only enuf time to answer but no negative marking …. so hav an idea of evrythn n u wll get thru …

So to all aspirants, wishing you the best of luck!

      @ Pushkar
Hey, i am sorry. I asked few of my friends about book. i think there is no books published for this test. you can prepare from small books meant for gate preparation for Mech, EC, or CS branches.

    Hi,

    I have B.Tech(C.S.E) 63.7 % and M.Tech(IIT Kharagpur) 7.9 CGPA marks.
Can I apply for job in ISRO ?

For M.Tech students also they see B.Tech marks Percentage ?

    • June 9, 2009 at 9:57 pm | #27

For this test u need min 65% marks in b-tech for appearing. I heard they conduct another recruitment only for m-tech. Notification will appear on the same web site. Don’t have much idea about this.

    Hi Shamzu,

    Thanks for ur quick reply.

I am doing job in MNC company, but work environment is not good manager treat us like labour. For me it is very difficult to work under someone like servant.

For M.Tech posts, will they consider M.Tech marks( and they don’t bother about B.Tech percentage) ?

I have seen website http://www.isro.org/joboppor.htm, but I didn’t found any thing related to M.Tech posts.

job opening for M.Tech students yet to declare or already over ? .

    Thanks,
    Siva

      Help pls Shamzu
My interview is on 13th July 2009. I am from mechanical. Pls tell me few questions:
      1. how many vacancies r there for mechanical students for the post of SC.
      2. how many times do they shortlist in written for interview.
      3. what is the weightage given to written?
      4. one more thing is that I think my final sem project was good & I have really worked hard on tht area. How can i turn my interview towards my project?

      thanks…..

      • June 20, 2009 at 11:28 am | #30

        @pradeep
        for 1,2,3 — I don’t know the answer.

4: Usually they will ask you to explain the project. you should bring a copy of the project report. If you can make them interested on your project, they might ask more questions about it. Again it all depends on the panel and your ability.
